Connect: More than facts
The situationYou're about to perform: a pitch to an investor, a first meeting with a new partner or a change message to your team. You have the arguments, but they also need to be remembered.
You can have the best arguments in the room and still not be remembered. Because people rarely make decisions on facts alone. We remember stories, and we trust the people we feel connected to.
Stories are remembered. Connection builds trust. Both can be trained.
THE MECHANISMThe brain is built for stories and tribes
Stories are remembered far better than facts and data, because they give the brain a person, a sequence and a feeling to hang the information on.
At the same time, our brains are constantly scanning: are you one of us? When we sense that the other person is like us in language, pace and energy, the social alarm drops and trust rises. Mirroring is therefore a shortcut to trust.
TECHNIQUE 1Wrap one skill in a story
Choose one specific situation. What was the challenge, what did you do, and what was the result? Link it to exactly what they need. Let data be the proof, not the message.
TECHNIQUE 2Mirror them
Use their words and their language. Match their energy and pace. Mirror their body language discreetly. It's not about imitating, but about meeting the other person where they are.
TECHNIQUE 3Ask one curious question
"What matters most to you right now?" A genuine question shifts the focus from your own nerves to the other person. And it gives you something to connect your story to.
